MATV was organized in response to the tragic loss of these two promising teens: Chris Lewis and Kendrick Lott. They were killed by two teens under the influence of illegal drugs and looking for someone to carjack. This was a random crime.
The drug war is the proper context for this tragedy. Chris’ mother, activist and author Joy Strickland, is founder and CEO of Mothers Against Teen Violence. She says, “The drug war did not protect the offenders from the ravages of drug dealers and it did not protect my family and me from the resulting violence.”
This blog aims to educate the public about drug policy and to encourage conversation about this critical issue. Joy continues this work as a memorial to Chris and Kendrick, resolving that their lives were not lost in vain.
